Visual Studio 2005 SP1 for Vista Now Available

During the development of Windows Vista, several key investments were made to vastly improve overall quality, security, and reliability from previous versions of Windows. While we have made tremendous investments in Windows Vista to ensure backwards compatibility, some of the system enhancements, such as User Account Control, changes to the networking stack, and the new graphics model, make Windows Vista behave differently from previous versions of Windows. These investments impact Visual Studio 2005. The Visual Studio 2005 Service Pack 1 Update for Windows Vista addresses areas of Visual Studio impacted by Vista enhancements.

Many of the Windows Vista enhancements are documented at the Windows Vista Development Center.

Career in Computer Science Message from Microsoft Research

Here is a fun video from MSR about their vision for the future.  Interesting how a number of PlayAnywhere tidbits show up in the video.

This vision of our future is bright and I do agree with MSR that this all can only happen if we have more people developing Computer Science skills.  Work with your school and if you’re in Singapore, work with Stanley Tan (our Academic Program Manager… blog to the left) to see how you can get more involved with technology even if you’re not getting a degree in it.

More Cool Progress Made with Microsoft Research’s "PlayAnywhere"

In a number of my presentations in the past, I’ve showcased a cool technology being developed my Microsoft Research called “PlayAnywhere”.  The original demos were cool but new ones are even better.

One of the coolest is the one where you drop your bluetooth enabled phone infront of the UI and it’ll start pulling and showing the photos on your phone.

Great to know that UI we saw in Minority Report may be coming sooner than we thought!
